Sports broadcasters speak at Jim McKay memorial (AP)

BALTIMORE - Some of the biggest names in sports broadcasting are in Baltimore to mourn veteran colleague Jim McKay.

During a memorial service Tuesday morning at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen, CBS sportscaster Jim Nantz called McKay "a modern-day explorer."

Other speakers included McKay's son, CBS News and Sports President Sean McManus, and former world driving champion and commentator Jackie Stewart. The tributes are being followed by a funeral Mass.

McKay died Saturday at age 87.

McKay was host of ABC's "Wide World of Sports" for decades, and is remembered by many for his Emmy Award-winning coverage of the kidnapping and killing of Israeli athletes during the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich.
