Daniel Craig injures hand on set (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Daniel Craig, star of the upcomingJames Bond movie "Quantum of Solace," suffered a hand injuryrequiring medical attention while shooting the film this week,a Columbia Pictures spokesman said on Wednesday.

But the spokesman, Steve Elzer, said he was unable toconfirm news accounts in Britain that Craig, 40, had sliced offa fingertip in the accident, which reportedly occurred while hewas filming an action sequence at London's Pinewood Studios.

Elzer downplayed the severity of the mishap.

"There was a minor incident on the set, and Daniel injuredhis hand, and in any situation like that it's usual procedureto seek medical attention. He did. He was back on the setwithin a matter of hours, and production wasn't delayed," Elzertold Reuters.

Columbia Pictures, a unit of Sony Corp, is the distributorof the film.

The accident marked the latest in a string of mishapsduring production of the 22nd installment of the James Bondfilm franchise.

Last week, Craig was reported to have suffered a lacerationto his face that required eight stitches, though Elzer said hehad no information about that.

Producers of the film said in April that a stuntman washospitalized with serious injuries suffered in an accidentbehind the wheel of an Alfa Romeo sports car in northern Italy.

Days before, British media reported that another car to beused in the production, an Aston Martin DBS, skidded off theroad into a lake, but the driver escaped with minor injuries.
