Christian Audigier's Big Night at LA Fashion Week (Fashion Wire Daily)

Los Angeles - Britney didn't make it as promised, but Miley and Heidi did. You know you've made it as a fashion designer when stars so famous that last names are not needed grace your show's front row, and that's exactly what happened at the Christian Audigier "American Lord" Spring 2009 presentation at the Mercedes-Benz Los Angeles Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City on Wednesday night.

Both Miley Cyrus and Heidi Klum caused a real ruckus when they took their seats in the chaotic Main Stage. People were very excited to see Lamar Odom towering over the crowd, too, and women were swooning over Billy Zane, wearing a tan newsboy cap, plain white jeans and brown tee.

Audigier's concept for the show, "inspired by traditional aristocracy and reconstructed with rebellious design," meant a mÙlange of red-and-black British plaid scrambled up with his signature embellished and distressed jackets, hoodies, jeans, tees, and minidresses. Mismatch is the name of Audigier's game for Spring '09, with clashing patterns all mixed up in every look for both men and women. Torn jeans and tiaras, micro-minis matched with trashy beehives, or top hats with granny glasses, everything had an edgy, rock 'n roll feel to it. Adding to that rock vibe was Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics fame. He was part of the show, as he and his band played many of that 80's group's most well-known songs to accompany the models heading down the green-grass runway.

Audigier's promised "surprise celebrity talent on the runway" turned out to be Justin Gaston, the "Nashville Star" singer and underwear model who has been dating Miley Cyrus lately, explaining her presence in the front row.

But the night was truly all about Audigier, as self-promotion is a big part of the designer's oeuvre. In fact, he sent numerous men's jackets down the runway bearing large pictures of his face splashed across the backs. He even stuck his face on the seat of a pair of glitter-strewn plaid men's jeans, prompting Billy Zane to comment afterward that, "you really have to watch your back if you wear his clothes, don't you?"
