-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS led the overnights on this second Monday in June, followed by Fox, NBC, ABC and the CW. Considering NBC aired all originals, the average 3.9 rating was particularly disappointing.
A repeat of TBS sitcom The Bill Engvall Show opened the evening for CBS second in the 8 p.m. half-hour (one-tenth of a rating point behind an encore telecast of Fox's Bones), with a 4.9 rating/8 share. Comparably, this was 11 percent above the 4.4/ 6 for a repeat of regularly scheduled occupant The Big Bang Theory just one week earlier. Look for the second season-premiere of Bill Engvall tomorrow on TBS. And expect Turner Entertainment to give CBS some promotional time in exchange for the airing.
Bill Engvall led into a repeat of How I Met Your Mother (#2: 4.5/ 7 at 8:30 p.m.), followed by repeats of Two and a Half Men (#1: 7.5/12), Rules of Engagement (#2: 5.6/ 9) and CSI: Miami (#1: 6.5/11) from 9-11 p.m.
In season-premiere news, a two-hour edition of Nashville Star, now airing on NBC, was not a star, with a 4.1/ 7 in the overnights from 9-11 p.m. Take a look at the half-hour breakdown:
Nashville Star (NBC) Šseason premiere
9:00 p.m. 3.8/ 6 (#4)
9:30 p.m. 3.9/ 6 (#4)
10:00 p.m. 4.4/ 7 (#2)
10:30 p.m. 4.2/ 7 (#2)
Nashville Star led out of American Gladiators, which was stalled at the 8-9 p.m. gate with a fourth-place 3.4/ 6. One season would have been enough for this light sports entertainment remake.
Week two of the return of ABC's The Mole finished a distant third at 10 p.m., with a mere 2.7/ 5 in the overnights. Earlier in the evening on ABC was another two-hour edition of mindless The Bachelorette at a 4.3/ 7 from 8-10 p.m.
Fox fared considerably better in the 8-10 p.m. block with its repeat combination of Bones (#1: 5.2/ 7) and House (#2: 5.8/ 9). And lowly the CW capped off the evening with repeats of Gossip Girl (#5: 1.2/ 2) and One Tree Hill (#5: 0.9/ 1).
