Goldberg brings Sister Act to UK

Hollywood actress Whoopi Goldberg is to produce a London stage version of her 1992 hit movie Sister Act.

The film is about a singer who police hide as a nun in a convent after she witnesses a mob crime.

"It is almost 20 years old. Rather than have someone repeat what was, you have to take it and redo it," Goldberg said.

The musical, which was first performed at the Pasadena Playhouse in California in 2006, will open at the London Palladium from 2 June.

Goldberg said some changes have been made, with the main character being younger than she was in the film.

"So she has a lot of decisions to make, more decisions to make than my character had," she said.

"It will be fun to watch. I'm excited."
